Black Duck Charolais is a boutique stud focusing on strong, sound and genetically balanced cattle. We are located on 500 picturesque acres at Junction View in the Lockyer Valley.
Black Duck Charolais is owned by Greg Nicholson and was founded 10 years ago with foundation female bloodlines from Palgrove and Baroola Studs. Our herd is constantly being developed and improved with the guidance of Graham Blanch from Charnelle Charolais. Some of Charnelles superb females have been introduced to our herd.
In 2019 we have started an exciting Embryo transfer program to further enhance the Black Duck Charolais breeding.
In 2018 Black Duck Charolais launched our show team. 2018 and 2019 Neon Moon placed 2nd at Royal Brisbane EKKA and 2019 was Champion Cow Royal Toowoomba. 2021 Black Duck Queen Street took out the Junior Championship at Royal Sydney Show!

We continue to upgrade our herds breeding with the guidance of Graham Blanch of Charnelle Charolais and some superb Charnelle females included in our herd. In 2019 we commenced an AI - Flush - Embryo Transfer program under the breeding expertise of Graham Blanch of Charnelle Charolais. Having 5 Recip cows in our herd giving us the opportunity to use our Donor cow Embryos and source some amazing Embryos externally. Utilising reproductive Veterinarian Peter Atkinson from Allora QLD.
Peter's service through the whole process is invaluable from flushing to storage to implant of the Embryos to the moment he comes back to Ultrasound the girls and you see the Heartbeat on the screen. Then the moment at between 8-11 weeks of age the Foetal Sexing is just spot on. Peter is an integral part of the Blackduck Charolais story going forward.
The Black Duck Charolais farm is situated West of Brisbane in the Lockyer Valley. We are approximately located 30 minutes drive from the township of Gatton.We are on 500 rolling and picturesque acres at the base of the Great Dividing Range. The property is broken into 20 Paddocks with a lot of thought put into shade and water for each individual paddock and is constantly being rotated and pasture improved.
All the lower paddocks on the property are serviced by underground mains and services by bore water to water troughs and for irrigation purposes.
The rolling hills at the top of the property have lightly forest areas with a lot of work being completed on revegetation and a variety of grass seeds to constantly improve pastureThe Lockyer Valley has a forecast of annual rain of approximately 780ml with that said the last few years have been well short of this number due to the drought.
